Joe De Gregorio’s Trilogy is an ambitious recording project realized across two continents in a single year (2025), consisting of three distinct yet interconnected albums. Conceived as a unified artistic statement, the Trilogy brings together remarkable jazz artists from multiple nations and generations, highlighting Joe De Gregorio’s vision as a pianist, vocalist, composer, and bandleader operating at the crossroads of tradition and innovation.
At its core, the Trilogy explores the evolution of jazz language through three complementary perspectives: heritage, cross-genre dialogue, and song interpretation. Each album stands on its own while contributing to a broader narrative of jazz as a living, global art form.
For Blues’ Sake
feat. Ron Carter & Peter Erskine
Recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio, For Blues’ Sake is a double album conceived as an homage to the blues as the foundation of jazz.
- Volume I presents 13 original jazz etudes: personal variations on the blues form that reimagine its harmonic, rhythmic, and expressive possibilities while honoring its historical roots.
- Volume II offers refined reinterpretations of iconic jazz standards built on the blues form, connecting tradition with a contemporary sensibility.
The project features two living legends of jazz: Ron Carter on bass and Peter Erskine on drums. Their presence underscores the album’s deep connection to jazz lineage while amplifying its artistic authority and intergenerational dialogue.
Crossover
feat. Peter Erskine & The LA String Players
Crossover expands the Trilogy’s scope by exploring the meeting point between jazz and other musical languages. Featuring multi–Grammy Award winner Peter Erskine, acclaimed bassist and composer Ike Sturm, and The LA String Players, this album showcases original compositions alongside reimagined standards—including a well-known pop evergreen.
Blending funk, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and classical influences, Crossover highlights melody as a unifying force, redefining contemporary jazz through rich textures and cross-genre cohesion. The result is a project that is both accessible and sophisticated, designed to resonate with diverse audiences while remaining firmly rooted in jazz artistry.
Crooner’s Journey
feat. Joe De Gregorio’s Parisian Quartet
Recorded in Paris with leading figures of the French jazz scene, Crooner’s Journey pays tribute to the art of song through a jazz lens. The album features Louis Moutin (drums), Géraldine Laurent (alto saxophone), and other outstanding Paris-based musicians.
The repertoire spans jazz standards and international classics, including pop evergreens, all newly arranged in a jazz idiom and performed vocally by Joe De Gregorio in five languages. Intimate, elegant, and deeply communicative, Crooner’s Journey reflects Joe’s identity as a cosmopolitan storyteller and singer, bridging cultures through sound.
A Unified Artistic Vision
Together, the three albums form a coherent artistic arc:
- For Blues’ Sake explores jazz roots and tradition
- Crossover embraces stylistic expansion and modern dialogue
- Crooner’s Journey celebrates song, language, and emotional connection
Joe De Gregorio’s Trilogy stands as a testament to jazz as a global, evolving language—one that honors its past while boldly engaging with the present and future.
